Scholarships for Pakistan

Scholarships and grants for Pakistani students wishing to study in Germany are offered by different German Institutions. For example, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers scholarships for certain Master programmes as well as research grants. In addition, some German Universities offer a small number of scholarships for specific programmes.

Generally, applications for scholarships in Germany need to be submitted around a year before the start of the envisaged study programme, according to the deadlines applicable (e.g. the deadline for a scholarship regarding a study programme starting in October 2011 is already in summer 2010). Interested individuals are advised to start preparations for a scholarship application well in advance.

Postgraduate courses in Public Policy and Good Governance (PPGG) at different universities in Germany.

This programme is designed to academically qualify graduates and young professionals with an in-depth interest in Politics, Law, Economics and Administration. Postgraduate Courses for Professionals with Relevance for Developing Countries:

Under this scholarship scheme, select Master Programmes are financially supported by DAAD. Candidates need at least 2 years of professional experience in the relevant professional field. For further details on the Master Programmes currently sponsored, please refer to the brochure below.

Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Post-Doc Scientists:

Grants for PhD or Post-Doc research projects are offered in all academic fields (i.e. Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, as well as Natural Sciences & Engineering). Scholarships are available for the so-called Sandwich Model (a research stay in Germany in the framework of a PhD Programme in Pakistan) and a full PhD in Germany. ‘Conflict Studies and Management Programme’ (CSMP)

The CSMP is a new programme implemented by the ‘Willy Brandt School of Public Policy’ in Erfurt (Brandt School) and the ‘German Academic Exchange Service’ (DAAD). It is addressed to Master’s students, doctoral students and senior researchers with an interest in conflict management in research and practise.

Fellowship Grants for Pakistani Graduates offered by Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers Fellowship Grants for post-doctoral researchers with above-average qualifications who are at the beginning of their academic career and have completed their PhD in the last four years only. A Humboldt Research Fellowship sponsors a research project of 6-24 months. Candidates need to present their project to Humboldt Foundation, along with proof of acceptance by an academic host at a research institution in Germany. Neither the Embassy nor the DAAD has authorized any consultant to act on its behalf and charge fees for "registration". Furthermore, visa fees are payable to the visa section of the German Embassy only. Do not pay anything to such "consultants" !

III. Offers for Pakistani Alumni of German Universities (Re-invitation)

The Re-invitation Programme is open to academicians who have studied in Germany under no less than a one year DAAD scholarship, as well as to former scholarship holders who had studied in East Germany (GDR) for at least one year. Former scholarship holders meeting these requirements can apply for re-invitation to Germany to complete a research project at a higher education institution or research institute recognized by the German state.
