As a first and second language for around 125 million people, German belongs to the most important languages worldwide. In Europe 101 million people have German as their mother tongue. In the institutions of the European Union, German is - after English and French - the most important language.
German Speech Contest at NUML
The German Department at NUML Islamabad held a German speech contest on 19 April 2011 where several students presented self-written speeches, songs, sketches and poems - all in German. Stephan Roeken, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy in Islamabad, was part of the judging panel allocating prices to the first three candidates: Usman Qureshi, Diploma Class, 1st price; Bilal Ahmed Qureshi, Diploma Class, 2nd price and Aiza Yousuf, Certificate Class, 3rd price.
