Federal Minister Dirk Niebel visited Pakistan (16 -19 June 2011)
Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Dirk Niebel and EU Commissioner Andris Piebalgs visited Pakistan from 16 to 19 June 2011 as part of a nine-day trip to Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. They were accompanied by UNICEF Ambassadress and TV host Sabine Christiansen.
During their visit to Pakistan they meet with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Pakistan's Army Chief, General Ashfaq Kayani. During the meeting with Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Minister of Finance, the Record of Bilateral German-Pakistani Negotiations on Development Cooperation was signed by FM Shaikh and Minister Niebel as well as a MoU between the EU and Pakistan, signed by FM Shaikh and EU Commissioner Piebalgs.
Minister Niebel visited German-funded projects in the SWAT valley as well as in Faisalabad, covering the themes of industrial production and energy efficiency, the Better Cotton Initiative and child labour. He celebrated 50 years of German-Pakistani cooperation at the German House for Development Cooperation in Islamabad on Friday, 17 June 2011.
