Prime Minister Gilani's Visit to Germany

The Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, paid a three day working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany (30/11 - 02/12/2009).
Prime Minister Gilani met Federal President Horst Köhler, Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and the President of the Federal Parliament Dr. Norbert Lammert in Berlin on 1st December. The Prime Minister travelled in the company of a high-ranking ministerial delegation, including Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who also met with his German counterpart, Foreign Minister Dr. Guido Westerwelle.
Discussions in Germany focused on the political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries.
The visit took place against the backdrop of the 50th anniversary of the German-Pakistani Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT), which was signed as the first ever international treaty of its kind on 1st December 1959.
To commemorate this event and discuss the current international framework for the protection of investments all over the world, a conference was held at Deutsche Bank, Frankfurt/Main, from 1st until 3rd December. Prime Minister Gilani opened the conference together with the Prime Minister of the German Federal State of Hesse, Roland Koch.
The visit of Prime Minister Gilani was an excellent opportunity to further enhance the good bilateral relations, in particular in the economic field.
