Visit of Federal Foreign Minister Dr. Guido Westerwelle to Pakistan
Federal Foreign Minister Dr. Guido Westerwelle visited Pakistan from 8 to 9 January 2011 in order to foster German-Pakistani relations and to learn about the current situation in the country. Accompanied by Ambassador Michael Steiner, Special Envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan, he met Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Kayani.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Dr. Westerwelle had talks with representatives of the German Technical and Financial Cooperation and of German NGOs being active in the flood aid funded by the German government. However, the intended field visit to the flood affected areas in the District Nowshera could not take place, due to critical weather conditions.
