As an initiative of the German Embassy Islamabad and in cooperation with local partners - the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) and the Board of Investment (BOI) - a German business delegation visited Islamabad from 12 to 14 April 2010. Fourteen delegates representing nine German companies (Siemens, Nordex, Azur Solar, Bauer Ressources, pm energy, Sonnenplus, Ossberger Hydro, German Water & Energy (GWE), Mirko-Warenhandel Mir-Kohler) from the solar, wind, hydro and geothermal sector participated in the visit. Some of the companies have already been present on the Pakistani markets in other market sectors, whereas others are in the process of starting their engagement in Pakistan.
The invitation and organisation of this business delegation to Pakistan was a practical, hands-on initiative to promote bilateral trade in the important alternative energy sector.

German companies with their know-how and technology – being even world leaders in RE technology – can certainly contribute to the efforts of the Government of Pakistan in overcoming the challenging energy situation in Pakistan.
The visit entailed a compact, but comprehensive 3-day programme and included meetings with relevant government insitutio (Ministry of Water and Power, BOI, AEDB, Planning Commission), business associations (Chambers of Commerce and Industry, regional investment agencies) as well as one-on-one meetings with Pakistani companies from the alternative energy sector.
