From now on, professionals and volunteers between the ages of 23 and 45 can apply for the “CrossCulture Programme” initiated by ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen). Applicants can submit their documents until 12 January 2018 on the application platform.
Online Appointment System for Visa Application
From 11 September 2017 online appointment system has been implemented at the German Consulate General in Karachi. Applicants from Sindh and Balochistan are adivsed to book their appointments via following link. No application will be accepted without an online appointment.

After a heart touching Mass in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dr. Ruth Pfau, Founder of the Mary Adelaide Leprosy Centre, was laid to rest in a state funeral at the Christian Cemetary in Karachi. Ambassador Martin Kobler and Consul General Rainer Schmiedchen were amongst the guests. We will remember her motto: "Love will have the last word."

Green Talents – International Forum for High-Potentials in Sustainable Development
The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has held the prestigious ”Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development” since 2009 to promote the international exchange of innovative green ideas. The award, under the patronage of Minister Professor Johanna Wanka, honours 25 young researchers each year.

Students of Karachi’s leading art schools, together with Mr. Klaus D. Schleiter of “Mosaik – Die Abrafaxe” have created a graphic novel on vocational training. The graphic novel was launched on 26 January 2017 during the opening of an exhibition presenting the original artwork.
A German scholar and a real friend of Pakistan
Prof. Conrad Schetter, University of Bonn, spoke on 13 December at the Pakistan Institute of International Affairs on "the German Perspective on Pakistan and its Neighbors". Prof. Schetter, who has been traveling in and working on Pakistan for many years, had also very interesting interactions with fellow scholars at Karachi University and the Centre for Journalism at IBA. Dr. Masuma Hassan moderated the session in the very balanced way she is known for.

KLF Peace Prize 2017
On 27 May the German-Pakistani Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) was launched in Karachi. It is the first ever joint chamber by a European country in Pakistan.
“I AM KARACHI” is a citywide movement that aims to collectively rebuild the diverse social and cultural fabric of the city. One of its core initiative is “I AM KARACHI WALLS OF PEACE”, which focuses on decorating walls with visual images and messages that illustrate positive values such as peace, tolerance and diversity. The artist’s group “VASL” in cooperation with the Goethe-Institute invited the famous German graffiti artist Sebastian Schmidt to decorate a wall at the Jinnah International Airport.

On April 19, the new computer lab at St. Gabriel School in Korangi, Karachi was inaugurated.
12 computers had been donated to the school by the German Consulate General in order to support the important and amazing work of this institution and the persons behind it.
St. Gabriel School does an outstanding job of providing education to underprivileged children and it is heartwarming to see how much effort and personal commitment is put into this institution by the principal and the whole staff.
It was an honor for the consulate to contribute to this project!

Ambassador Ina Lepel visited the City of Lights, “Karachi”
German Ambassador Ina Lepel visited Karachi on 10 and 11 February, 2016. Together with Consul-General Rainer Schmiedchen she visited the German Cultural Institute, addressed the business community and inaugurated a research center at ICCBS, Karachi University. Furthermore, Ambassador Lepel along with CG Schmiedchen met the Governor of Sindh. He informed that the security situation in Karachi has improved considerably, compared e.g. to 2011/12. Ambassador Lepel regarded her visit very fruitful and informative and vowed to come back.

Germany supports Karachi Literature Festival
The German Consulate General Karachi, the German Embassy Islamabad and the Goethe-Institut are proud to support 7th Karachi Literature Festival (KLF). The German Peace Prize and readings of two German authors will be highligts of KLF 2016.
Germany has assumed the Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in January 2016 for a one year term
The German Government’s motto for the year is “renewing dialogue, rebuilding trust, restoring security”. The Government will thus seek to strengthen OSCE instruments and institutions, promote dialogue among the participating States and thereby rebuild trust in Europe.

Dr. Ruth Pfau honoured for Humanitarian Work
In recognition of her services in Pakistan Dr. Ruth Pfau from Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC), was awarded the Staufer Medal in Gold on December 21st by the Consul-General, Mr. Rainer Schmiedchen, on behalf of the Chief Minister of the German State Baden-Württemberg.

German Wind Power Technology - A Success Story in Pakistan
The German company Nordex successfully installed wind mills in 3 power projects in Pakistan. On Wednesday, October 28 Consul General Schmiedchen visited the Foundation wind energy parks I & II in Gharo, Sindh Province. Both wind parks were designed and installed by Nordex.

Germans in Karachi celebrated German Unity Day
German Consulate General Karachi celebrated 25 years of the German Unity Day on 5th October 2015 at the German Consulate Karachi.
CG Schmiedchen handed over cheque to Dr. Pfau. The Team of German Consulate General in Karachi supports MA Leprosy Centre with funding of 10 motor bikes to be used for helping patients in remote and mountainous areas of Pakistan.
CG-Team supports Leprosy Project
Consul General Rainer Schmiedchen paid his inaugural visit to the Chief Minister of Sindh, H.E. Syed Qaim Ali Shah recently. Both agreed to further boost up the bilateral relations between Germany and Pakistan and encourage trade activities. The other main issues of the meeting were the human rights situation and planned cultural events of the consulate.
